Freelance Instructional Designer
I am a freelance instructional designer, blending my knowledge of graphic design, websites and UX to provide businesses with professional e-learning content.
I build engaging and design-led instructional content where the user’s experience takes priority. I have extensive experience in building SCORM-compliant and accessible e-learning courses to industry standards.
I specialise in e-learning accessibility, including the use of Amazon Polly Text to Speech software as well as full compliance with JAWS screen reader and Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software.
Whether you need a designer to design your instructional course from scratch, someone who can translate your existing content into an authoring program such as Articulate Storyline 360, or help from my network of experienced e-learning editors, I can help.
Some projects I have worked on as an Instructional Designer:
VYUS | Articulate Storyline 360
I was tasked by corporate cyber security awareness specialists VYUS to write, design and build an Articulate Storyline 360 e-learning course on behalf of a British government department. I was provided with various government documentation from which to extract content and rewrite it in line with the latest e-learning standards. With the course content written by my trusted freelance e-learning editor, I designed new course templates in Adobe Illustrator, using look and feel supplied by VYUS. The requirement was for the course to be fully accessible to accommodate government staff with varying additional needs. To deliver this I built two routes within the same course: a standard version and an accessible version.
Tavistock Relationships | Articulate Storyline 360
I was approached by Tavistock Relationships, a leading couple therapy training institution, to edit, design and build an e-learning course on behalf of CAFCASS (Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service). The aim of the course is to reduce strain on family courts by educating parents on the court process and trying to resolve matters before cases go to court. I was provided text written by Tavistock’s experts, which I sent to a trusted freelance specialist e-learning editor to be turned into an e-learning course. With the course content written, I then designed new course templates in Adobe Illustrator based on the CAFCASS brand and built the course in Articulate Storyline 360 before their digital partner uploaded it into their LMS.
Pernod Ricard | Articulate Storyline 360
I was commissioned by London-based creative agency, Strange Hill, to take instructional content designed in Adobe Illustrator and transpose it into Articulate Storyline 360, for an e-learning website on behalf of the world’s second-largest wine and spirits seller, Pernod Ricard.
The SCORM-compliant interactive courses work across both desktop and mobile, and I enhanced the interactivity of the documents with advanced elements including triggers, variables and quizzes.
Fire Aid International | PowerPoint
Fire Aid are experts in maritime emergency preparedness and provide a range of training courses through their academy, from mandatory basic safety training through to bespoke courses designed especially for their customers.
Fire Aid approached me to modernise their brand and bring their PowerPoint training decks up to date for their advanced fire fighting course. This included developing a new brand, rethinking and redesigning detailed infographics, and improving the student user journey.
